Berit Engen WOOF and D'RASH - Weaving a Thousand Jewish Tapestries

Black lace and gates

Wrought iron gates and lace clothing have the quality of a transparent veil: one can be both seducing and rejecting, one can see and hide. Or: be seen and be hidden. Not all protection is voluntary, which adds to the complexities of the symbolism and complicates the visual retelling of stories. Both artisan techniques appear craftfully ornamental with contrasts between the material and open spaces.
